The photographer is Shannon Rose Riley, MFA, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow with the Center for Women’s InterCultural Leadership, CWIL, at Saint Mary's College, who over the past three years spent four months in Cuba conducting research on Cuban culture and performance forms. In 2006 she was the first U.S. artist to perform in a national theater festival in Cuba. She also completed advanced study on Cuba as part of her PhD and dissertation work. Riley took more than 2,000 images during her travels in Cuba. Curator Jeremy Vaughan, MFA, came up with the concept for the show and selected the images. (Full text)
