(Reuters). Mary McCarthy passed away at the age of 108 on April 3, 2009. She had a small fortune in a Boston bank account that was frozen by the U.S. government due to the trade embargo against Cuba. Since 2007 she had been granted by the U.S. government to withdraw 96 U.S. Dollars per month for her medical expenses.
