Desde 1984, la Organización Católica Internacional del Cine y el Audiovisual (OCIC), devenida SIGNIS con los años, ha permanecido como jurado en el Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana. En aquel empeño inicial por darle a la Iglesia voz y voto en un evento que invitaba y comprometía a los realizadores del área, mucho tuvo que ver la entonces directora de la oficina de la OCIC en Cuba, la señora Gina Preval. Fue ella quien comenzó las gestiones para constituir el primer jurado católico a la cita, que finalmente integrarían el padre Ambros Eichenberger (Suiza); Miguel Pereira (Brasil); monseñor Luciano Metzinger (Perú); el padre Fernando de la Vega (Cuba) y la propia Gina. Because the film, in a modern and effective cinematographic language, shows us how violence is engulfing communities living on the margins of Latin-American society, especially youngsters. The central-character, however, shows that the possibility to rebuild this society is real.
