I received a beautiful letter from some Sisters working in Camaguey, Cuba – they wrote thanking me (actually they should have been thanking your pastor, Fr. Kubala) for gifts of medicines and school supplies and letters sent by children of St. Thomas School. Of course, there’s a Haitian proverb I know that says: di mèsi vle di ban m ankò (To say thanks means to ask for help again.) The sisters don’t speak Creole – but they do need help again. They’re asking for some funds to support a comedor for elderly people (about $300 a month, the price of a good meal for you and some friends at the Capitol Grill)– and money to buy these seniors “mosquito nets”. I’ll be sending on that letter to Father Kubala Monday morning. (Archbishop Wenski's Homily on Thanksgiving Day, read full text)
