”The startling move of José Enrique Pardo in Cubamerican is to take a conversation that few people are having and put it front and center on the screen in this transformative documentary.” – Jaie Laplante, Miami International Film Festival

Cubamerican´s, universal theme centers around the heart-wrenching, life altering decision to leave one’s native land and the transcendence of that hardship by assimilating into a new country. For years, Cuban exiles in the United States have waited in vain for Castro’s Revolution to be dismantled. Now, 54 years later, re-evaluation has set in for many, and they confess to no longer “feeling Cuban.” Instead, a new identity has taken hold for them: Cubamerican. What “Cubamerican” means – what it looks like, what it feels like – is Pardo’s subject. He interviews many prominent Cubamericans, and explores the timely and fascinating subject of shifting personal and cultural identities.
