MANO turns to Cuba’s Vanguard movement as inspiration for his newest collection “Circa Now”, returning to his gestural format of abstract expressionism, MANO pays homage to Cuban masters such as artists Wilfredo Lam, Victor Manuel, Antonio Gattorno and Amelia Pelaez among others, reinterpreting their works using unlikely materials such as jute and elements of collage, adhering what might appear as random fragments of burlap over burlap and canvas, applying thick layers of paint and natural pigments to create richly textured works in celebration of his heritage.
Opening Reception for "Circa Now" will be part of the third-year anniversary for the Bird Road Art Walk.
Saturday, October 19 at 7. 00 p.m.
