Miguel Rodez Art Projects is pleased to present the work of internationally exhibited artist Freddy Villamil.
Fredy Villamil is a Cuban contemporary artist with a unique style. One can see traces of Wifredo Lam, Portocarrero and Carlos Alfonso in his work. His paintings are forested with figures that gesture, grimace, mock, beckon and vie for the viewer's attention. They are joined by objects and creatures that have grabbed a hold of his emotional makeup. Dark lines that Georges Rouault would envy serve as the framework for spits of color. Fredy Villamil attacks a canvas with effortless abandon to produce complex figures that simultaneously face the viewer and look in some other direction. As in Alice in Wonderland, size both matters and doesn't matter, as his figures are not bound by the rules of perspective or proportion but form structures that support his composition. Distortion is the rule rather than the exception. He toys with a viewer's expectations as a stand-up comic sets up a premise with the objective of delivering an unexpected punchline.
The prices are accessible with artworks in the $800 to $6000 range, with many pieces going for less than $2000.
See the work of Fredy Villamil this Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Miguel Rodez Art Projects (4229 SW 75 Ave, Miami FL 33155)
