Please join us as The Ruth Page School of Dance and Escuela Nacional de Ballet of Cuba debut their collaborative “work in progress” followed by an artists reception.
Highlights of the performance include:
• "Los Tres Estados del Alma" and "Summer Place", both choreographed by Pedro Ruiz, Cuban-born choreographer now living in NYC, and featuring the music of one of Cuba's national treasures, Frank Fernandez.
• "Movement" choreographed by Ruth Page School of Dance Director, Victor Alexander, featuring young artists from the Ruth Page School of Dance and Escuela Nacional de Ballet, with music by Max Richter.
• “The Slave and The Merchant“ Pas de Deux
• "The Nutcracker" Pas de Deux
• "Le Corsaire" Pas de Deux
This will be the first official exchange between two eminent cultural institutions, the Escuela Nacional de Ballet and The Ruth Page School of Dance, since the normalization of relations between the two countries Cuba and USA. The two schools, both noted for their exceptional training and artistry, are engaging an exchange that explores the differences in dance training and methodology during the period of June-October, 2015.
The Cuban National Ballet School is the largest ballet school in the world and the most prestigious ballet school in Cuba. Many of the school's alumni are eminent professionals, recognized in Cuba and internationally. Most of them form part of the National Ballet of Cuba, one of the most important companies of the world. The Ruth Page School of Dance, one of the leading ballet training centers in the country, has for over 44 years provided the highest level of training to talented young dancers and professionals. Students will train in this program before moving on to national and international professional dance companies.
