Resignation and appointment of bishop of Saint Augustine, U.S.A.
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Saint Augustine, United States of America, presented by Bishop Felipe de Jesús Estévez.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Erik T. Pohlmeier, of the clergy of Little Rock, until now director of the permanent formation of the clergy, for the permanent diaconate and of the diocesan Catechesis Office, and parish priest of the Christ the King parish in Little Rock, as bishop of Saint Augustine, United States of America.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Erik T. Pohlmeier was born on 20 July 1971 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the diocese of the same name. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, Indiana, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (1994). He received a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (1997) and a diploma in pastoral theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas “Angelicum” (1998), as a resident of the Pontifical North American College.
He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Little Rock on 25 July 1998.
Since ordination, he has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Christ the King parish in Little Rock (1998-2001), parish priest of Our Lady of the Lake parish in Lake Village (2001-2005), of the Holy Spirit parish in Hamburg (2004-2005), of the Saint John the Baptist parish in Hot Springs (2005-2010) and of Our Lady of the Holy Souls parish in Little Rock (2010-2016), director of formation for the permanent diaconate (since 2015), of the diocesan Catechesis Office (since 2016), and the permanent formation of the clergy (since 2019), and from 2020 to the present, parish priest of the Christ the King parish in Little Rock. In addition, he is a member of the Presbyteral Council and the Clergy Personnel Board.

Pope Names Miami Auxiliary Bishop Estévez as Bishop of St. Augustine, Florida; Accepts Resignation of Bishop Galeone
(USCCB) WASHINGTON (April 27, 2011)—Pope Benedict XVI has named Miami Auxiliary Bishop Felipe de Jesús Estévez, 65, as bishop of St. Augustine, Florida, to succeed Bishop Victor Benito Galeone, 75, and accepted Bishop Galeone’s resignation from the pastoral governance of the diocese.
The appointment and resignation acceptance were publicized in Washington, April 27, by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
Felipe de Jesús Estévez was born on February 5, 1946, in Cuba. He came to the United States through Operation Peter Pan, which brought 14,000 unaccompanied minors from Cuba and finished his high school studies in Indiana.
He holds a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Montreal University, a Master of Arts degree from Barry University and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He was ordained a priest in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1970. He was a member of the Canadian Society of Foreign Missions and was a missionary in Honduras until 1975. He was received into the Miami Archdiocese in 1975, and incardinated there in 1979. He was made a prelate of honor, with the title “Monsignor” in 1981, and named an auxiliary bishop of Miami in 2003.
Assignments in the Miami Archdiocese included faculty member, St. Vincent De Paul Regional Seminary, 1975-1977; studies at the Institute for Spirituality, Gregorian University, 1977-1980; rector, St. Vincent De Paul Regional Seminary, 1980-1986; pastor, St. Agatha Parish, Miami, and director of campus ministry at Florida International University, Miami, 1987-2001. He was dean of spiritual formation, St. Vincent De Paul Seminary, 2001-2003.
